Need Yo Help, All Mah Hip-Hop Heads
Aight, so I’ve been workin’ on a Hip-Hop mix for Mona for about a week so far. Got it whittled down to about 33 songs, but at this point I’m really finding it difficult to eliminate songs. Please help me out! In the comment section please let me know what songs I should delete, or which ones I should add. I’m looking for a cd of the BEST hip-hop out there. But kinda has to be Top-40 hip-hop (sorry Chad!), and can’t be too dark. For instance, Biggie’s “Suicidal Thoughts” is a groundbreaking song, but it wouldn’t fit on here. Aight, I need about 20-22 songs… Here’s what I’ve got, think its pretty good…
In no particular order…
Izzo (H.O.V.A.)-Jay-Z Listen HERE
Rollin’ Dough-Lafa Taylor ( I need to give her something from EUG. Do you think “Oreganic” would be better?) Listen HERE
Touch the Sky-Kanye West feat. Lupe Listen HERE
Lost+ -Coldplay feat. Jay-Z (I think this is the BEST ‘end song’) Listen HERE!
Ms. Jackson-Outkast Listen HERE!
Hola’ Hovito-Jay-Z
Soon The New Day-Talib Kweli feat. Norah Jones
Listen!!!-Talib Kweli
Sunshine-Lupe Fiasco I’m gonna use the studio version, but listen to THIS!
Us Placers-Lupe, Kanye and Pharell Listen HERE!
Daydreamin’-Lupe Fiasco Listen HERE!
Mr. Carter-Lil’ Wayne feat. Jay-Z Listen HERE!!!
Brown Skin Lady-Blackstar Listen HERE!
Good Life-Kanye West Listen HERE!
Jesus Walks-Kanye Listen HERE!
Work It Out-Jurassic 5 Listen HERE!!
Encore-Jay-Z
Yesterday-Atmosphere Listen HERE!
Big Poppa-Biggie Smalls
Bassment Party-Cool Kids Listen HERE!
Nappy Heads-Fugees
Gold Watch-Lupe Fiasco
Puppets-Atmosphere
Higher?!-Pigeon John
All Falls Down-Kanye West
American Boy-Estelle feat Kanye (Not really worthy of the list, but its kinda my theme song here..!)
Diamonds from Sierra Leone-Kanye West feat Jay-Z
Kick, Push-Lupe Fiasco
Jockin’ Jay-Z-Jay
He Gets the Girl-Lupe Fiasco
Tie My Hands-Lil’ Wayne
La la (Mix Tape Version-Lil’ Wayne
Juicy-Biggie Smalls
Alright, those are the songs. Now, I have a LOT of Lupe and Kanye, so I need a little help whittlin those down. PLEASE, I need help! Also, the list really isn’t that diverse, so suggestions would be great. Feel-good, upbeat hip-hop! Thanks!!
P.S. Ran out of patience puttin links to all the songs. Search it on youtube if ya wanna listen to it! THNX!

Hey big guy, I think you need Fighters by Lupe, probably the best song ever haha and definitely stick with Rollin’ Dough and maybe add Makin’ Love? Idk, just some suggestions…other than that though its looking pretty good

mmmmm good list…i agree with brutha teton on the rollin’ dough over oreganic…AND maybe if you are looking for a good variety of hip hop songs I would possibly lose a couple kanye songs….i know he is good but if you have one or two songs by him and she likes it, then she can look him up and probably find the other ones and then there will still be space for some other artists as well…gooooood luck!!

Hey, just checking it out, I think some great songs are…
“desire” – pharoh Monche,
“What they do” – the roots (or really just about anything from the roots)….
Anything from A Tribe Called Quest, seriously! “Award Tour” might be the best bet for up tempo. However, “electric relaxation” is my favorite….
Some Common, I would actually say just about anything not from his latest album “UMC”… Sorry, Taylor. I think either “Go!” or “The Light”
Classic stuff, man like “Just a Friend” by Biz Markee.
Something by Naughty By Nature – “feel me flow” or “hip hop hooray”.
Slick Rick – “I own America, pt 2″.
Del – ” Why you wanna get funkee with me?”.
Special Ed – I got it Made
Also, I don’t think that’s the Fugee’s best song, I would go with either “Ready or Not” or “Zealots”.
I’m sorry, this is ridiculous. I’m actually filtering myself, too. Even though I gave so many song suggestions. good luck, haha.

No Rest for the Weary is definitely solid. How about Get By by Talib Kweli and The Waitress by Atmosphere? Maybe Lost Ones by Jay-Z or This Way (feat. Kanye) by Dilated Peoples.. Common Market is awesome too!

Thanks you guys!
Chad, idk about Quas or Madvillain, I’ll check em out.
Not sure if Fighters will make it, its definitely not better than Gold Watch or Sunshine, Kick, Push or Daydreamin’. Eh? Might have to slip Rollin’ Dough in there though…
I do need to take away some of Kanyes stuff, I think I might remove Jesus Walks and a few others, idk.
I’ll also look into Blue Scholars, and there was one song by Common that Kanye did the beat for, and it was freakin amazing, I need to find that song. Do you have any idea what I’m talkin bout, T?
I actually had Award Tour on here but it didn’t end up making the final cut, I’ll revisit it though. I’ll also look at those other Fugee songs. Thanks so much, man I really appreciate all those ideas. I’ll def check em all out.
Thanks guys, keep it comin! And help me with what to delete, if you can!

Um on the Common song that Kanye did the beat for…it might be “Go!” However Kanye did produce both albums “Be” and “Finding Forever” by Common, so there are quite a few beats done by him…Good luck though man hope you find it, Common is dope!
